Spirited

Spirited

Summer settles its debt with the sky
as the spirited bride considers
diamonds & a ring of gold
where only hills rise from a quiet lake
reflecting promises of a different nature

can her story possibly remain untold
when there is a groom who claims
he has found it written in his heart?
(she took his breath away
& all he could do in return
 was take her hand)

she promises many things
secrets & certainties
& spirited moonlit dances,
but he has seen the midday stars
in her eyes, has found it
impossible to count them even
& whispers the words
that echo through her dreams:

all i want is you

a wedding poem
for amity
